My big project for last year’s season was to begin to put together a better encampment kitchen setup. I made some good progress and expect to continue to work on it this year. Here is a gallery of photos showing what we were up to. I hope you enjoy these pictures.
- I co-opted an A-frame tent from a friend of mine who isn’t camping much anymore to use as a kitchen tent. Here it is set up with the side raised.
- These tent poles were hand carved and painted by a good friend of ours. It seemed a shame that they weren’t being seen.
- Here the tent is set up as a kitchen.
- This year, my husband built me a counter height table. This is a picture of the table top boards being glued together.
- Here is a picture of the underside of the table top showing the cleats that both strengthen the table and will anchor the legs in place.
- Here the table is finished and has been treated with light walnut stain. Well, its mostly finished. It still needs pegs.
- The table in use at an event.
- I’ve shown my bench before, but I love it so much I had to include. It usually hangs out close to the kitchen at events.
- These kitchen boxes are based on the mastermyr find. They are very scaled up, of course.
- Later in the summer, my husband started rounding the lid with a draw knife. This project has been put away for now unfinished. It will likely be completed sometime this summer.
- I woven these linen towels this year. They are lovely to use. I am getting more and more used to using them as you would any other wash cloth.
- This is a box my husband is making on the Mastermyr design and dimensions. It is pegged and only waiting for hardware now.
- This is a milled piece of walnut we picked up to use as a table top such as the European reenactors use. It has been treated with linseed only. Need to get some wood for the legs and it will e usable this summer.
One day I am coming to America to camp with you!
You would be welcome!
Do you have detailed plans for the kitchen table build? I do period camping and would love to build one
Sorry, we don’t have any plans for that table. He made it up as he went. My ask was for counter-height and about 6 feet long, so that’s what he came up with.
My sister and I are traveling next spring and part of the trip is in AnTir. What events (and where) might you be attending next May that we might be able to visit your encampment. We want to find an event to include in our plans.
Etienette of Calontir.
I have started a new job at the same time I started a new business, so my eventing has slowed way down. Next May, you’ll be able to catch me at May Crown on the third weekend.

Your table is beautiful, thank you for sharing the pictures of your camp!
