Because this project is on a fairly tight timeline, I am lucky enough to have several friends volunteer to help me out with the time consuming aspects of preparing the loom for weaving.
Here is a gallery of photos to enjoy showing some of the steps involved in dressing the loom for the kaftan cloth.
- Here, a friend is measuring the warp threads for the kaftan cloth project on my warping reel.
- Peeking out from behind the loom as we sit threading it.
- Here is a side view of us sitting inside the loom threading. I am warping from front to back.
- A shot of the bench my husband whipped out after listening to me complain about my back and my bum sitting behind the loom , threading. this bench fits over the peddles at the back of the loom and has a nice wide seat.
- A view through the harnesses looking at the reed. This was a very familiar view for several days.
- I have a cat. Can you tell? The warp in all its glory. Close to 1600individual threads. Each one individually measured, passed through the reed and threaded in a pattern that would only be revealed later.
- The warp tied to the warp beam and ready to be wound on. Notice the warp chains hanging off the front.
- The lease sticks inserted into the warp. Their job is to help the threads wind onto the beam evenly. Note the creative use of zip ties.
- A shot showing the lease sticks in context of the path of the warp.
- Partially wound on to the warp beam. Is there any prettier sight? Oh wait. Yes. The finished cloth. 🙂
- All wound on and waiting to be tied onto the cloth beam.
