I’m exploring a new embellishment technique – posaments from the Birka grave finds. Here is a quick picture of my attempts so far.
From top to bottom, they are:
1. Birka grave #944
2. Birka grave #944
3. Birka grave #520 and #957
4. Birka grave #832 and #1040
5. Birka grave #643
6. Birka grave #944
I’m using a spun tin wire known as “tenntråd”. Its very difficult to get in the US, but seems to be available in scandinavian countries readily enough. I have placed an order with a company in Europe and will be selling the wire as soon as I receive my shipment. When I have it available for sell, I’ll let you know how to order it.
In showing these birka posaments samples around, I’ve been asked several times if I used a tutorial or how did I learn it. Basically, I figured it out by looking at pictures of the extant pieces from Birka. I’m working on a tutorial to make this technique more accessible to those who like to have step by step directions to follow. It will be available at some point in the future. Again, I’ll let you know.
I would be very interested in the instructions when they are available. Unless they already are – going to go explore your site right now.
Yes please are there instructions? Specifically inthe #832 posaments
Macrame knotting instructions might help those who want to learn the technique. Practicing the workings with something like paracord would be less expensive, and less frustrating, than starting with metal.
