In lieu of a real blog post, I thought I would be a photo gallery of some of my weaving projects. For some reason, I thought this would be easier. Not so much as it turns out. I went back through four years of pictures and project notes to put this together. I hope you enjoy this chronicle of my adventures in fabric weaving. I do a LOT of broken diamond twill. 😉
- Yardage completed in December 2011 from an original draft. Woven in natural and indigo dyed worsted 2/20 Jaggerspun wool.
- Picture showing the indigo diamond cloth after it has been washed and dried.
- Closeup of weave of the indigo diamonds cloth. Woven at 36 epi and 34 ppi.
- Shaggy pile weave completed in September 2011 and after being cut off the loom. Project was worked “in the grease” to avoid overhandling the locks.
- Backside of the shaggy pile fleece showing lock insertion into the weave.
- Ground is tabby woven in mill ends sport weight white wool. Pile is impossibly long leister cross.
- Yellow and green broken diamond twill cloth completed in November of 2010.
- Closeup of the yellow and green broken diamond twill. 2/18 woolen woven at 24 ends per inch.
- The cloth, washed, dried and ready to go to its new home.
- First attempt at Icelandic supplemental pile or “shaggy pile” weaving completed in April 2010.
- Back of the shaggy pile weave showing the lock insertion. Ground is a mill ends sport weight wool. Locks are unidentified sheep.
- Completed collar. I like the sunbleached tips on the locks. Ultimately, I ended up cutting up this piece and using it for natural dying experiments.
- Yellow broken diamond twill cloth completed in January 2010. This picture was taken just after cutting it off the loom, before washing and drying.
- Close of the yellow cloth. Woven from commercially dyed Jaggerspun woolen in 2/18. Sett: 24 epi, 24 ppi.
- Yellow cloth after washing and drying.
- First attempt at herringbone wicklebanders completed in December 2009. Warp and weft are mill ends yarns.
- Beginning of silver wire brocaded tablet weaving on silk ground.
- First attempt at wire brocaded card weaving started in November 2009. This piece is still on my tablet loom as of March 2012.
- Second set of blue/blue broken diamond twill cloth completed in May 2009.
- Closeup from the blue/blue broken diamond twill cloth completed in August 2008. I duplicated this cloth again in 2009.
- The end of the first blue warp completed in 2008. It was much narrower and much longer on this small floor loom.
- Blue and black striped cloth completed in November 2008. Pattern is herringbone in commercially dyed 2/18 woolen.
- Closeup on the loom of the blue and black stripe showing the chevron pattern.
- The gentleman is wearing pumphose made from the blue and black stripe fabric, while the lady is wearing an apron dress of my blue/blue fabric.
- Broken diamond twill cloth in commercially dyed orange and yellow. Completed in January 2008. This warp was14 yards long.
- The c;oth after cutting off the loom. I had not learned about temples or floating warps yet.
- A gentleman wearing a coat made of the orange cloth.
- A hood made of the very first piece of yardage I ever wove.
- 3 yard piece completed in the spring/summer of 2007. Mint green and white mill end wool sport weight wool.
So cool!!!
