I have completed weaving eight yards of the madder warp/brown weft combination. That is enough, I feel, to make the Rus kaftan. The rest of the warp is being woven with a higher contrast light brown/old gold weft. I have set a goal to have finish this project on the loom by the end of the year.
This project has been quite challenging and not very fun as evidenced by the many months it has languished in the “punishment pile”. I doubt that I will do a three shaft pattern with wool any time soon.
I have finally, after significant effort, fallen into a weaving rhythm. It is not very fast, but it is accurate and gentle on the yarn. My latest tweak was to add more weight to the left-hand floating warp thread because that side was pulling in too much. I have also been paying detailed attention to winding the pirns for my end feed shuttle. It is helping.
I’ve started daydreaming about my next weaving project. I have several ideas floating around. The one that interests me the most currently is weaving linen cloth.
